Vegetation More than half of the Sanctuary's area is covered with patches of American bulrush, interspersed with various
species, including wild rice, three Sagittaria species (erect, grass-like and cuneate-leaved), fragrant water-parsnip, boneset, rice cutgrass, tufted hairgrass,
and species of spike rush. The rest of the Sanctuary is characterized by mudflats, rock outcrops and herbaceous and shrubby vegetation. The shrub stratum, which is flooded periodically, is dominated by
several species of willow and alder.
Birds Migration During the migration season, from 2 000 to 3 000 Greater Snow Geese and 200 to 300 dabbling ducks, such as American Black Ducks and
Green-Winged and Blue-winged Teals, can be seen at the site.
Breeding Among the ducks that breed in the Sanctuary are the American Black Duck,
the Pintail and the Mallard. Other species that have been observed here during the breeding season include the Horned Lark and swallow species, as well as the Savannah Sparrow.
