Saltwater fishes
of the St. Lawrence:
local richness

The following map shows the distribution of local richness, expressed as the disparity between the actual distribution and the prediction by the regional model. Sectors with high richness often correspond to slopes and the blind alleys of deep channels, particularly in the eastern part of the Laurentian Channel. Other sectors rich in species include the front of Chaleur Bay and the Bauge Bank. The estuary and adjoining part of the Gulf are poor in species, as is all of the Magdalen Shelf.
